James Alvin Brunson ODESSA James Alvin Brunson September 25, 1942 - September 18, 2026 James spent his young life in Odessa and Levelland, Texas. He settled in Odessa and became a firefighter. He served his community for almost thirty years. He was proud to be a part of the brotherhood at the Odessa Fire Department. As far as he knew, he was the only firefighter that received a speeding ticket for driving his ambulance too fast. He also worked with his best friend, Dickie Corbell at Bee Electric for thirty years. After he retired, he built his beautiful garden at his residence which remains a testament to his work and creativity. James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elvie Brunson and both of his siblings Betty Cummins and Gene Brunson. He was also preceded in death by all three of his sons. James leaves behind his wife, Cindy Brunson, his daughter - in - law, Tina Brunson, and his beloved grandchildren, Hannah and Jeremy Brunson, Kennedy, and Reese Taylor, and also Samantha Harris who first called him "Papa." One of James' heartbreaks in this life, was the loss of all three of his sons. If we have any solace today, it is knowing that he is finally reunited with his boys. I hope that a celebration was held in Heaven today when James was reunited with his sons, Christopher James Brunson, Kenny Don Taylor and Christopher Allen Taylor. For many years, James helped with the care of his mother - in - law, Mimi. He was a devoted and loving son - in - law. He visited her daily and supported her until the end of her life. He was a positive male role model for all of his nieces and nephews who will greatly miss him. He was such a positive influence on all their lives. Rhonda Cummins deserves special recognition for all of her devotion and all of her help during her Uncle James' illness. Thank you to all the friends and family that cared enough to show up for James during his last days. All the kindness was very touching and heartfelt. Kay Kennedy deserves a special thank you for all of her support and time. James' true legacy was his love for his family and friends. It was touching to witness so many friends and family that found time for James during his illness. James was a devoted member to Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over twenty years. He always helped maintain the property and kept the flower beds beautiful. He also served as a head usher. Most recently, he was a dedicated member of Connection Christian Church. At a later date, we will gather in James' favorite place, his garden, and say a final goodbye and a prayer. We want to offer our gratitude for the care that James' received from the wonderful team from Hospice of Midland. It was God's gift that we were connected to this exceptional group during James' final days. "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Exodus 33:1
