Dorris Mae Bowden Wendt KERRVILLE Dorris Mae Bowden Wendt passed from this life on January 14, 2026, in Kerrville, Texas. She was born May 17, 1928, in Brownwood, Texas, to Mae and Orville Bowden. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jim Bowden; two sisters, Jeanette Mehaffey and Jane Pettit; a granddaughter, Alexandra Bond Roberts; grandson, Chris Wendt; her son, Fred Wendt Jr.; and her husband, Fred. They had been married 70 years at the time of his death. Dorris grew up in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1945 and attended Odessa Jr. College, and then Texas College of Mines (now UTEP) where she met and married Fred in 1950. They had four children, Janie Love of San Antonio, Nancy Williams (Steve) of Hammond, LA, Fred Jr., (deceased) and Pat Roberts (Jeff) of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Chris Wendt, (deceased), James Love, Renton, WA, Brian Love, Colorado Springs, CO, Heather Geiring (Scott) of Kelowna, BC, Canada, Ashley Salazar (Carlos) of Petaluma, CA, Alexandra Roberts (deceased), Allison Wendt (Josh Holley), Odessa, TX, Michael Williams (Emma) of New Orleans, LA, and Kelly Williams (Steve Blair), Portland, ME; and great - grandchildren, Hayden, Mateo, Santiago, Aiden, Jordyn, Sophie, and Giulia. She loved being a mother, grandmother and great - grandmother, and shared in all of her families' activities. Her hobbies included family gatherings, antiquing, refinishing antiques, travel, bridge, needlepoint, and stained glass work and gardening. She also owned and operated an antiques shop in Odessa for several years. She was always active in the Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women, Delta Delta Delta Alumna and was a Golden Girl member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She and Fred lived in Odessa over 40 years. When Fred and Dorris retired, they moved to Fredericksburg for a year and then to Kerrville. She continued with the family gatherings, travel, antiquing and bridge. She and Fred visited all fifty states, Canada and Mexico in their motorhome, with her sharing the driving duties. They also took many cruises and trips to Europe. She and Fred lived in Kerrville for over 25 years. At her request, there will only be a family graveside service in Kerrville.
