August Nelson Schott ROUND ROCK August Nelson Schott of Odessa, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family. Nelson was born on July 22, 1939, in Humble, Texas, to B.B. and Margaret Schott, and was the oldest of three brothers. He grew up in a lively, loving household and developed an early interest in technology and communication, earning his HAM radio operator's license at age 15. He was also active in Scouts and worked at a television repair shop while in high school. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and History from the University of Houston. He also served in the United States Army Reserve, and later received a Master's Degree in Counseling from Sul Ross State University. Nelson spent his career in education, teaching at several schools including Odessa High School, Odessa College, and The University of Texas Permian Basin, where he made a lasting impact on generations of students. Nelson was also a well - known Odessa photographer and owner of Schott's Photography for 45 years, capturing weddings, sports, families, and countless community events. A lifelong learner and adventurer, he was an avid HAM radio operator, bicyclist, and a train and aviation enthusiast. He was one of the original founders of the Permian Basin Bicycle Association, enjoyed cycling through the Davis Mountains, attended air shows, and was a Colonel in the Commemorative Air Force. He especially loved spending time with family and friends. He never met a stranger and was known for his generosity, curiosity, and love of conversation. He was a devoted father, grandfather, partner and friend. He is survived by his daughters, Carla Renea Wilkins and Amy Katrina Patterson; his brothers, Gordon Schott and Randall Schott; six grandchildren; seven great - grandchildren; his life partner, Barbara Graff; and many extended family members and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 1, 2026, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Jeff Davis County Community Center in Fort Davis, Texas. All are welcome to attend.
