Kaye Banes Gaddy ABILENE, TXAS Former West Texas Broadcaster, Kaye Banes Gaddy, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Abilene, Texas on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at the age of 87. She was born in Hobbs, New Mexico and moved to Odessa, Texas at an early age with her parents Warren and Donna Banes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at El Paso, and, later, earned her Special Education Certificate of Teaching. Gaddy began her working career in television broadcasting. She began at KMID - TV in Midland, Texas as "Miss Kaye" on the children's show, Romper Room. She was later employed by KOSA - TV in Odessa, to join the daily High Noon Show with George Deusler. After a brief stint at WROC - TV in Rochester, New York, as a Weather and Environmental Reporter, she returned to Texas at KTVT - TV in Dallas - Fort Worth where she co - anchored the Noon News and the Evening News broadcasts. She was then employed as a Co - Anchor and News Director at KPOM - TV in Fort Smith, Arkansas. After concluding her television career, Gaddy became affiliated with the National Main Street Program. She was the Downtown Main Street Manager in San Marcos, Texas, Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and Cambridge, Ohio. In later years, Gaddy was blessed to be able to teach at the Ector Country Youth Center in Odessa, San Marcos Youth Shelter, and Roper Middle School, in Washington, D.C. Her greatest accomplishments, she always said, are her four sons, Stuart, James, Joe, and Stace. Gaddy is survived by sons, Stuart Gaddy and wife Teresa of Cross Plains, Texas, James Gaddy of Boston, Massachusetts, Joe Gaddy of San Marcos, Texas, Dr. Stace Gaddy of Abilene, Texas, brother Warren Banes Jr. and wife Edna of Montreat, North Carolina, and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and one great - granddaughter.
