Sherry Gwen (Roberts) Leverett GARDENDALE, TX Sherry Gwen Roberts Leverett of Gardendale, Texas passed from this life into the next February 15, 2026 in Los Angeles, California, while visiting her son. Sherry Gwen Roberts was born September 10, 1945 to Elon Mozelle Hufstutler Hinds and Laurence Roberts in Abilene, Texas. Opportunity drew the Roberts family from Abilene to Odessa, where the family opened Robert's Hardware, selling boats. Sherry graduated from Permian High School in 1964, where she met C. Dale Leverett, whom she married on June 5 of that same year. Sherry, Dale, and their family moved from Odessa to Gardendale in 1997. After the loss of Dale in 2005, Sherry built a new life. The foundation for this new life was her faith in God, her family, her friends, and her business. Dedicated to carry on the legacy that she and Dale began with their company, Sherry brought water to Gardendale, pursued development of the area, and continued ranching in southern Texas. Sherry's daughters spent more than three decades living and working alongside her. Tea time was a highly valued tradition for those in proximity, especially with her dear sisters in law, Debbie Leverett and Twilla Leverett. Sherry took great joy in hosting all, offering a refreshing glass of iced tea and a nice chat. Friends and family formed strong connections with bits of wisdom and fun served along with the iced tea. Sherry Gwen carefully maintained lifelong friendships by taking time to visit her friends or have them visit at her home. She remembered birthdays and paid attention to those around her. She tended to her friends and family as beautifully as she tended the gardens that she loved so much. Known as "Mamie" to her devoted grandchildren (there are 10) Sherry demonstrated exceptional skill in organizing gatherings of any size, embracing opportunities for celebrations. A homemade Mexican buffet was easy to put together for an impromptu dinner, and could stretch to feed a few more that might happen in. Serving was something that came naturally to Sherry Gwen, she spent years teaching Sunday School and mentoring the kids around her, including the numerous nieces and nephews that reciprocated her love. Sherry Gwen travelled with her kids and grandkids and was present in all stages of her grandchildren's lives. Homeschooling, high school, presentations, performances, Mamie was always present, smiling and happy to be there. Weddings and babies and the lovely moments that make a life worth living were part of Sherry's special grace. Sherry loved to take her grandkids shopping and spend time having sleepovers at home and at the ranch, these times were a welcome and anticipated weekly event! She enjoyed visits from her son and his children from LA on occasion as well. In recent years, with failing health, Jami and Addie were able to care for their mom. Her faith and love for Jesus sustained all through these difficult times. Sherry shared her pearls of wisdom and love for Jesus generously and without reserve. Sherry Gwen Roberts Leverett is survived by her beloved brother Bill Roberts, her daughters Jami Leverett Langford, and Addie Leverett Christenson, and their spouses Guy Langford and Jesse Christenson, and her son Jody Leverett. Judy Kay (Gleason) Newkirk PURCELL, OKLAHOMA Judy Newkirk - Gleason age 75 of Purcell passed away in Oklahoma City on February 19, 2026. Judy Kay Gleason was born to James Mac Gleason and Jewell Agnes Gleason (Raines) on June 10, 1950 in Green River, Wyoming. Her father worked for the rail road, so Judy's childhood was spent traveling the country wherever his work led the family. They eventually settled in Oklahoma, and it's been home for most of her life. Judy married Laurence Houston Newkirk on December 17, 1966 in Carnegie, Oklahoma. The young couple made their home in Odessa, Texas for nearly twenty years before returning to Oklahoma in the late 80s. Judy worked a number of odd jobs over the years. She worked for Texas Instruments, Piggly Wiggly, assembled fruit baskets, and delivered milk to local schools. Her primary job throughout the years was taking great care of her family and her home, which she did with love and devotion. Judy loved to garden, read, and write. She believed you could tell all you need to know about a person by the shoes they wore. Though she was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandma, and sister the title she wore most proudly was Christian. She was a proud woman of faith who deeply loved her savior Jesus Christ and took comfort in God's word daily. Judy was preceded in death by her parents James and Jewell Gleason, and her siblings Jeanette Kirkendall, Mary Gleason, and John Gleason. She is survived by her husband Laurence Newkirk of Maysville. Her children Jenny Newkirk and husband Ron of Purcell, Thomas Newkirk and wife Tara of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Julynn Patton of Marble Falls, Texas. Peggy Mae "Mimi" Cherry FORT WORTH, TX Peggy Mae Cherry, 71, of Odessa, TX, gained her beautiful Angel wings on January 23, 2026 in Fort Worth, TX surrounded and held by those she loved. Peggy was born May 28, 1954 in Chandler, AZ, the daughter of Kenneth and Betty Jo Sundwall. She married David Cherry on November 26, 1977 in Odessa, TX. Peggy completed the cosmetology program at Aladdin Beauty College and earned her beauty license in 1978. Her passion was doing hair, meeting people and keeping customers happy. Peggy's talent was matched only by her ability to make everyone feel like family. Peggy wasn't just your stylist. She was your therapist and your best friend. She was honored to work in some of the best shops in Odessa and in the early 80s, Peggy opened her own salon, Scruples. Scruples was her pride and joy. It enabled her to work with the top stylist in town while producing trend setting styles of the 80s. Scruples was the absolute go to salon of its time, chic and cutting edge. Peggy mentored countless up - and - coming stylists throughout her career and helped shape Odessa's beauty scene of today. Peggy opened a second shop, Hair Razors, in the early 2000s and this is where she continued to work all the way until her passing. Through her years as a stylist, Peggy had many customers and friends, all of which meant the world to her. She loved making people feel beautiful! Peggy had a huge giving heart and always wanted to help where she could. She loved to volunteer and held various positions with multiple organizations throughout the years, including the Rape Crisis Center, Boys and Girls Club and Make - A - Wish. Peggy raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations over the years with her fundraising skills as she knew everyone in town and you just couldn't tell Peggy no when she came asking. Peggy loved her Make - A - Wish kids and families. She was directly responsible with honoring and completing over 10 direct wishes in the Permian Basin area. Peggy was known by all that loved her as Mimi. She was given that title by her granddaughter, Madison, when she was a toddler and from that point on, that's who she was, Mimi. Being a Mimi to her grandbabies was the most important role life ever gave her and all you had to do was ask her and she would tell you that. Mimi had the largest personality that a room couldn't contain and she absolutely lived for her family. The love and relationship she had with her daughter and her grandkids was epic. She never missed a single program, party, school function, hospital stay, doctors appt, practice, tournament or game. Everything she did and every breath she took was for her daughter and her grandkids. Anyone who crossed her path knew this because you couldn't be around Mimi without hearing one of her stories about her Madison or her Bryson. They were the air that she breathed. She loved them with every fiber of her being. Mimi touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her, which is pretty much everyone as she never met a stranger. Her selflessness, warmth and vibrant personality will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, strength and commitment that lives on in all of us. Our lives will never be the same without our Mimi. Peggy was met at Heaven's gates by those that proceeded her in death, including her parents Kenneth and Betty, her husband, David Cherry; brother Kenneth Sundwall, Jr; both her sisters, Penny Nichols and Pamela Toliver; her favorite Aunt Pat and many other beloved family members, customers and friends.
