Thomas Maloy "Tommy" Hobbs MONTGOMERY, TX Thomas Maloy Hobbs went to be with the Lord at age 73 in Montgomery, Texas on July 20, 2026. Tommy was born on August 31, 1952 in Abilene, Texas to Paul Maloy Hobbs and Willie Vic Hobbs. His family moved to Odessa, Texas and he graduated from Odessa High School in 1970. Tommy met the love of his life, Claudia M (Coggins) Hobbs while they were both in Acapella Choir together for three years at Odessa High School. He was in the Senior Boys Quartet at OHS with three of his closest friends and they performed all over town. Tommy married Claudia on February 13, 1971 and the two shared a deep love of music their entire life. Tommy often led singing at church and led the music for many weddings. He loved the outdoors and spent many hunting seasons with his brother Lon. Tommy enjoyed coaching girls softball, where both his daughters, Jennifer and Lori, played for many years. He and his family moved to the Houston area where he worked for Exxon Mobile for 34 years before retiring. He is preceded in death by parents Paul and Willie Vic Hobbs, brother Lon P. Hobbs, and nephew David F. Hobbs. Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Claudia Hobbs; his sister Nancy Mitchell; his daughter, Jennifer Tharp and husband James; daughter Lori Scott; grandchildren Madison Tharp and Luke and Faith Scott; along with and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Memorial service will be held at Highlands Church of Christ in Highlands, TX on August 8, 2026 at 11:00 AM.

William E. King MIDLAND William "Willie" Errol King, 83 of Imperial, Texas crossed the River Jordan on July 28, 2026 to meet his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Mr. King had been a lifelong resident of Imperial. Born October 30, 1942 to R.D. and Dorris King, he was the eldest of three sons. He graduated from Buena Vista High School in 1961 where he met his high school sweetheart Sherian Sue Edmiston. The two became one on February 14, 1962 and in May the following year would become parents to a daughter, Monique Renee. William was never afraid of a hard day's work. It was instilled into him as a young boy starting with work on his Daddy's various farms in Pecos County. As a teenager he began working in the oilfields in and around Imperial. Laying pipelines and pouring concrete pumpjack bases BY HAND, well before modern machinery and heavy equipment were used in the Permian Basin. This eventually led to employment with Gulf Oil in 1968. Although he worked many long hours in the oilfields, he worked just as hard off the clock. He built the home his family would live in to this day. He built the set of corrals where he raised and worked cattle at the ranch just East of Imperial, until the drought of the 1990's forced him to sell the herd like many more in and around Pecos County. Everything he built was done to perfection, and anyone who helped him learned how to do it just the same or learned some new words. After 30 years in the oilfields, he retired from Warren Petroleum in 1998. He was also a public servant, being a member of the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department for over 10 years. In 1980 he was elected to Pecos County Constable Precinct 4. He would hold this position for the next 4 decades becoming a staple in the Imperial community. While being a constable in a largely rural area can bring very mundane calls for service, he greatly enjoyed his tenure. He ESPECIALLY enjoyed helping and guiding the youth of Imperial, keeping them out of trouble and steering them in a better direction when they needed it!!!! Upon retirement from his Constable position in 2020, he was recognized by The Texas House of Representatives and the Pecos County Historical Commission as being not only the longest elected official in Pecos County, but the third longest Constable position in the entire State of Texas. Mr. King was an extremely large influence on his fellow law enforcement officers and also to his great nephew, Marshall King who was recently elected to the very constable position Mr. King held all those years. One of his most favorite places on this earth was the Big Bend area, more specifically Adams Ranch on the Rio Grande. For more than 50 years, his family and countless friends would take fishing trips there. These were more than fishing trips to him; they were a direct blessing from God. To see God's beautiful creation of Boquillas Canyon and enjoy time with family and friends made it so special to him, even if the fish weren't biting. Mr. King is preceded in death by his parents, R.D. and Dorris King, his brother Bruce King, two nieces Shelly Kay and Carol Dean King, and nephew Monty King. Those he leaves "TO GATHER AT THE RIVER" include; his wife of 64 years, Sherian King, daughter Monique Bowles, grandson Chet and wife Karah Bowles, great grandsons Camden and Stetson Bowles, brother Marvin and wife L'Jean King, sister - in - law Jeannie King, 8 nieces and nephews, and multiple great nieces and nephews. A multitude of friends, and the uncountable acquaintances he made in the Law Enforcement community. Pallbearers include; Chet Bowles, Bill King, Trampas Yoder, Joe Daniels, Kenneth Heritage, Daniel Joseph, honorary pallbearers Camden Bowles and Stetson Bowles. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you make a monetary donation to the West Texas Boys Ranch or a cancer research center of your choice. Preston Varner Stevens LAS CRUCES, NM Preston Varner Stevens, passed away on July 23, 2026, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. He was born in Childress, Texas, and lived his years with faith, dignity, and a steadfast commitment to serving others. Preston was a Christian man whose life reflected the values he held dear. He believed in hard work, integrity, and the importance of walking faithfully with the Lord through every season of life. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, his kind spirit, and the quiet strength with which he met both the ordinary and the difficult moments of life. He was a man who carried himself with humility and grace, and he left a lasting impression on all who were blessed to know him. He proudly served his country and then received his Bachelor of Business Administration from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas, and later earned his Juris Doctor degree from Texas Tech Law School. His education laid the foundation for a distinguished legal career and a lifetime of public service. Preston was admitted to the State Bar of Texas and served as County Attorney for Wheeler County, Texas. He later retired after 25 years of service as First Assistant District Attorney in Odessa, Texas, where he earned the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of the community he served so faithfully. His dedication to justice and public service was recognized when January 8, 2004, was proclaimed Preston Stevens' Day in Odessa, Texas, a fitting tribute to a career marked by honor and perseverance. After retirement, Preston and his wife moved to the mountains near Cloudcroft, New Mexico, where he found peace in the beauty of God's creation and the slower rhythm of mountain life. He served as President of the Robin Hood Water Users' Association and gave his time as Sunday School Director for Mayhill Baptist Church. His faith was not merely spoken but lived, and he served his church and community with a willing heart. He found joy in simple pleasures, including travel, fly fishing, reading, and watching westerns, and these interests brought him comfort and enjoyment throughout his life. Preston cherished his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were a continuous source of happiness and the most special and treasured relationships in his life. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Stevens; his son, James Stevens; his daughter, Jennifer Spaulding and her husband, Brandon; his grandsons, Connor Stevens and his wife, Katy, Brex Stevens, and Ryan Spaulding; his granddaughter, Emily Markos and her husband, Alex; his sister, Nonie Cawthon; and numerous nieces, nephews, great - nieces, and great - nephews. Preston's life was a testimony to the truth of Proverbs 22:1, which says, "A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold." Though his passing brings sorrow, those who love him take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior. His earthly journey has ended, but the legacy of his faith, devotion, and love will continue to bless his family and all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. May the Lord comfort all who mourn his passing and grant peace to those who loved him. Preston was a 32° Scottish Rite Mason, the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Scottish Rite for Children Hospital in Dallas, TX. The funeral service for Preston Stevens were held at 10:00 am Monday July 27, 2026 at Mayhill Baptist Church in Mayhill, New Mexico.
