Johnson Camden Chancellor MIDLAND August 3, 1932 - July 9, 2025 Johnson Camden Chancellor, affectionately known as Cam, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, in Midland, Texas, at the age of 92. Born on August 3, 1932, in Oklahoma City to Annie Laurie Burt and Charles William "C.W." Chancellor. Cam lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, community, and an extraordinary gift for bringing joy through storytelling and humor. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great - grandfather, and friend. Cam's ability to spin a story brought laughter to so many people. A man of deep faith, he was an active member of Asbury Methodist Church in Odessa, Risen Lord Lutheran Church, First Methodist Church in Odessa, and First Presbyterian Church of Midland. His parting advice was to read a verse of scripture daily and maintain a sense of humor, as life passes by so quickly. He attended Midland High School through the 10th grade before graduating from New Mexico Military Institute and earning a degree from The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served honorably as an officer in the U.S. Army and became a trailblazer in business and design. As president of West Texas Office Supply and owner of Chancellor Interiors, he was among the first licensed interior designers in Texas, holding license #14 (ASID & IBD). In his leisure time, Cam enjoyed tending to his yard and reading about history. Deeply committed to his community, Cam served as president of numerous organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club of Odessa, Odessa Downtown Rotary Club, Permian Playhouse, Presidential Museum, Ellen Noel Art Museum, and served many other organizations. He played an important role on the development committee that brought the University of Texas Permian Basin to Odessa, and he knew the true story of how Odessa secured UTPB! Cam is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Chancellor of Midland; his sons, Hilton Chancellor (Karen) of Timnath, Colorado, Preston Chancellor (Susie) of Bangs, and David Chancellor (Michelle Gerald) of Midland; his stepdaughters, Tamara Spinks and Heather Petty (Kevin), both of Midland; his grandchildren, Camden (Mariam), Courtney (James), Phillip, Thomas, Gregory (Danielle), Whitney Rike (John); Jad and Elle Rogers; Carter (Ashton), Leighton, Grayson, Audrey, and Hutton Petty; and his great - grandchildren, Felicity Rike, Lee Luksich, Charlize, Camden, Hattie, and Ellie. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ray Chancellor, and his siblings, Bob, Harold, C.W. "Bill," Phyllis, and Stuart. Cam personally selected his honorary pallbearers, both living and deceased: Goss Yeager, Dwayne Abell, John Steinberger, Judge Jimmy Fitzgerald, Ken Hankins, Buck Ogilvy, David Brune, Rev. Jim Otterness, Dr. Glen Rogers, and Jack Wilkerson. A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at Nalley - Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Midland on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
