Jack Eugene Kitzmiller CONROE Jack Kitzmiller, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, educator, and lifelong learner, passed away on December 8, 2025, at the age of 90. He was born on October 25, 1935, in Brownwood, Texas, to John and Lucy Goodman, and grew up in Irving, Texas, where he graduated from Irving High School. From an early age, Jack loved music and sports. He played trumpet and formed his own stage band, performing at events throughout the Dallas area, including the Southland Corporation's Easter Dance. At just 19 years old, he married Joyce, and together they raised three children: Larry, Julie, and David. Jack earned his bachelor's degree from North Texas State University and began a career teaching Government, History, and Economics in Irving. During the Civil Rights Movement, he quietly but firmly stood for equality, supporting African American communities and leading students in service projects to rebuild a local community center. His outspoken advocacy came at a professional cost but never diminished his commitment to justice or education. After earning a master's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, Jack moved to Odessa, Texas, where he taught Political Science at Odessa College. An avid traveler and scholar, Jack made numerous trips to Russia and Europe, studied the Russian language in Ukraine, and later taught Soviet Foreign Policy and Modern Russia at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. His excellence in teaching earned him rare recognition and a nomination for the Chancellor's Council Award. Jack married his beloved wife, Jerra, on September 2, 1982, beginning a partnership marked by respect, humor, and devotion. Together they cherished a large and loving family, including six children, thirteen grandchildren and six great - grandchildren. Jack will be remembered as a dedicated and influential teacher, curious scholar, someone guided by a strong sense of civic duty and a loving husband.
