Nicolas Garcia Dominguez Sr.
HOBBS, NEW MEXICO Nicolas G. Dominguez, Sr., passed away on December 10, 2025, in Hobbs, New Mexico. He was 100 years old. Dad celebrated his 100th birthday on December 6, 2025, surrounded by his daughters and grandchildren in Hobbs, NM. Dad was most recently a resident of Desert Springs Nursing Home in Hobbs, NM. Nicolas was born on December 6, 1925, in Terlingua, Texas, to Marcelo Dominguez of Redford, Texas, and Placida Garcia of Terlingua, Texas. He grew up in the Terlingua and Marathon areas of Texas. Dad was preceded in death by three children, three brothers, and one sister; Salvador Dominguez (Uncle Arturo), Marcelo G. Dominguez (Uncle Paul), and Julian Dominguez; and one sister, Eriberta "Tia Beta" Terrazas (Dominguez). He was also preceded in death by his son, Ruben Dominguez of Ft. Stockton, Texas, and two infant children, Patricio and Connie Dominguez, in San Jose, CA. At the age of 19, Dad received his induction notice into the United States Army and reported to Fort Bliss, Texas. He was drafted as an Infantry Private on February 12, 1945, and completed his military qualification as a Marksman (Rifle) on June 12, 1945. After completing basic training and preparing to serve, the Japanese surrendered, and the United States declared peace on September 2, 1945, bringing World War II to an end. Although he never saw combat and returned home to Texas after the war, Dad was always proud that he answered the call to serve. As he would say, he was an American; it was his time, so he went. Following the war, Dad returned to Texas and later met and married Maria Concepcion (Pando) Dominguez of Kermit, Texas, on July 2, 1952. They lived briefly in Kermit before moving to San Jose, California, in 1955. Dad worked at Novitiate Winery in San Jose, where he retired. In 1972, he and Mom moved to Jal, New Mexico, and to Hobbs in 2016. Dad was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Maria Concepcion (Pando) Dominguez, who passed away on November 7, 2022, in Hobbs, NM. He is survived by his three sons, four daughters, many grandchildren, and great - grandchildren: Sam Dominguez of Carlsbad, NM; Dan Dominguez of Houston, TX, and his wife, Dominga; and Nick Dominguez of El Paso, TX; Ruby Zamora and her husband, Ruben, of Hobbs, NM; Sonia Dominguez and her husband, Lindell Owens, of Hobbs, NM; Dora Dominguez and her husband, John Cordova, of Albuquerque, NM; and Yolanda Dominguez of Albuquerque, NM. As a longtime resident of Jal, NM, Dad enjoyed gardening, visiting with friends, and teaching his grandchildren how to fish. He especially loved sharing stories of his childhood spent fishing along the Rio Grande River in the Big Bend area of Texas. He and Mom were longtime members of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Jal and later St. Helena Catholic Church in Hobbs. A fellowship will follow graveside memorial service. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held Friday January 16, 2026, at 2:00PM Texas Time at Kermit Cemetery West Hwy 302 Kermit, Texas. Services are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home Hobbs, New Mexico.
