Nancy Victoria (Hobbs) Mitchell LA GRANGE, TX Nancy Victoria Mitchell passed from this earthly life on August 27, 2026, at the age of 87 in Austin, Texas. She was born December 2, 1938, in Lamesa, Texas to Paul and Willie Vic Hobbs. At the age of 2, the family moved to Rochester, NY where her father supported the war effort. Afterwards, they lived in Abilene, Lubbock, and San Antonio, before finally settling in Odessa, Texas when she was in the 8th grade. She attended Odessa schools and graduated from Odessa High School in 1957. Nancy loved music and was an extremely accomplished pianist. She was named "Most Musical" at Odessa High, where she was also a member of the acapella choir. Following high school, Nancy continued to pursue her interest in music at Abilene Christian College, participating in their acapella choir as well as earning her degree in piano. After graduating college, she returned to Odessa and married Rex Winford in 1963. They had three children, Whitney, Torey, and Ben. In 1972 - 1973 Nancy completed a graduate program at the Teacher's College at Columbia University in New York City. Years later she married FR Mitchell, being married for 40 years until his death in May 2020. Nancy's passion for music was a central theme in her life. She taught piano lessons for approximately 40 years, having the opportunity more recently to teach two of her grandchildren. She enjoyed singing and playing carols at Christmas time as well as her favorite Irish songs every year on St. Patrick's Day. She was loved by her students and was a truly talented musician. In the late 1980s, Nancy obtained her insurance and securities licenses and became a financial advisor. She was business partners with her oldest daughter for 33 years before she retired in 2023. After retiring, Nancy moved to her son's ranch near La Grange, Texas where she enjoyed life in the country. Throughout her years Nancy remained a faithful Christian, formerly being a member of Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ in Odessa, Texas and Fairmont Park Church of Christ in Midland, Texas. She had recently placed membership at West Oaks Church of Christ in Columbus, Texas. She loved attending worship service and especially loved the song service, her favorite song being "Jesus Hold My Hand". Nancy always had a twinkle in her eye and a smile that could light up every room. She cherished her dogs, who brought immense joy and companionship to her everyday life. She made friends wherever she went, including the places she regularly shopped or frequented. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Nancy was preceded in death by Rex Winford; husband, FR Mitchell; parents, Paul and Willie Vic Hobbs; brothers, Lon and Tommy Hobbs; nephew, David Hobbs. She is survived by daughter, Whitney Brady and husband Brian of Odessa, daughter, Torey Worley and husband Mark of Odessa, and son Ben Winford and wife Ava of La Grange; grandchildren Sean Brady and wife Shelby, Erin Cobb and husband Al, Colin Brady, Will and Arianna Worley, Luc LeMaire, Aubrey LeMaire, Emma Winford, Jack Winford and fiancée Ava, Eleanor LeMaire, and Jedburgh Winford; great - grandson Brady Cobb. She was expecting her 12th grandchild later this year. A Memorial Service will be held to honor Nancy on September 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Fairmont Park Church of Christ in Midland, Texas, with a lunch reception to follow.
