Mercedes P "Mercy" Olivas JOPLIN Mercedes "Mercy" P Olivas passed away on October 3, 2026, in Joplin, MO. She was born 09/24/1937 to Augustin and Maria Rocha Palacio in Lamar, CO. On January 3, 1962, Mercedes and Jesus F Olivas were joined in marriage and to that union three precious sons were born, David, Jerome and James. Mercy worked at Ray Motor company in the position of assistant bookkeeper. In 1970 the family moved to Odessa, TX. Mercy was the accounts payable clerk at Broncho Chevrolet then went to work at Ector County Independent school district as a teacher's aide. She then transferred to the administration building to the receptionist position in the human resources department then a secretary to the director of paraprofessionals. She retired from the ECISD in August of 2002. In August 2021 she moved to Joplin, MO to be near her son Jerome and his wife Rosario. Mercedes is proceeded in death by her husband Jesus "Jesse" Olivas (2018), sons, David Olivas (1999) and James Olivas (2011). Parents Augustin Palacio (1956) and Mary Palacio (1963), Brother Cenobio "Sonny" Palacio, sisters: Antonia "Tonie" Martinez, Amelia "Molly" Torrez. Very special aunt, Bernardine "Nina" Godinez. Survived by her son Jerome Olivas and wife Rosario of Duenweg, MO, Grandchildren; Erica Olivas, Candice Olivas, Catherine Abney and husband Kris, Jakob Olivas and 6 great grandchildren. Sister, Mary Helen Palacios - Valdez, several relatives and friends. On November 6, 2026, the recitation of the Rosary will be at 1pm at St Anthony's Catholic church, Odessa, TX . Mass will be held at 2pm following rosary.
